While curling up with a good book, taking a long winters nap, or sipping a glass of wine, the fires are being stoked at some of our favorite places across the North Fork. So come in out of the cold and warm those tootsies by a nice open fire.

Macari Vineyards  Enjoy your flight of wine alongside a grand stone fireplace.
Shinn Estate Farmhouse  The sitting room is warmed by a wood burning stove, so snuggle in with a book and glass of wine.
The Orient Inn Fireplaces in both the entry way and dining room make this inn a warm and cozy retreat.
The Bartlett House  Ask for Room #2 with its fireplace and cozy sitting area.

Go to our DRINK and SLEEP sections for locations and more details.

A Slice of Humble Pie

Here on the North Fork one can't mention apple pie without Briermere Farms. Baking pies since 1961, Gertrude and Leonard McCombe have built a small empire with their freshly baked fruit pies. It's mecca to pie lovers so don't leave the North Fork without picking up one or two. Some local favorites... strawberry-rhubarb, raspberry-peach or the blackbery-apple. Good thing to note, it's cash only, so don't forget the green.

Tid Bits...

We'll have to sit tight and wait until Spring 2010 for the opening of Nello Balan's new venture in Greenport. Still planned, the opening of Seaweed, a 75 seat Mediterranean-influenced restaurant on one side of Main Street. And on the other side, a 14 room boutique hotel called Bego complete with a Japanese style cafe. Also, there's buzz about another new, "trendy" restaurant opening somewhere on the North Fork, tweets David Page from Shinn Estate Vineyards. It's certainly shaping up to be an interesting Spring 10!
